Continuing what great owners started.

Great Lakes Legacy seeks to acquire and operate an exceptional Michigan business for the long term.

For owners thinking about what comes next

Selling a business you’ve spent years building is about more than finding a buyer. It’s about your employees, your customers, your reputation, and knowing that what you’ve built will continue in good hands.

Great Lakes Legacy was created with that in mind. I’m looking to acquire a great Michigan business that I can personally lead and operate for the long term, not to build a portfolio of companies to buy and sell.

My goal is to build on what already works, investing in the people and systems that can make the business stronger and preserve the qualities that made the business successful in the first place.

Searching for a great Michigan business with a strong foundation

Great Lakes Legacy is searching for established businesses with a history of serving their customers well, a strong reputation, and a team worth investing in. While there is no single perfect profile, there are characteristics that set businesses apart.

BUSINESS LOCATION

Michigan-based with a preference for businesses located in Southeast Michigan

BUSINESS CHARACTERISTICS

Established, profitable businesses with recurring or repeat customer demand, a strong reputation and a capable team.

BUSINESS SIZE

Generally, $2 million to $15 million in annual revenue, with sufficient profitability to support an owner-operator

BUSINESS TYPE

Business and industrial services, distribution, specialty trades, healthcare services, and other durable businesses where people, operations, and customer relationships drive success

These are guidelines, not hard rules. If you own a great business and are beginning to thing about what comes next, I’d welcome a conversation

A different kind of buyer

Great Lakes Legacy is not a private equity fund or a strategic buyer. I’m looking for one great business that I can personally lead and operate for the long term.

LONG-TERM OWNERSHIP

The goal isn’t to acquire and sell. I’m looking for a business that I can own and build for many years to come

RESPECT FOR WHAT YOU’VE BUILT

A successful business is more than its financial results. Its employees, customers, reputation, and culture are a large part of what makes it valuable. I want to preserve those strengths while building on them.

The goal is simple: leave a great business stronger than I found it.

Meet Matt

Matt Bejin, Founder

I’ve spent my career helping privately held businesses grow, adapt, and navigate change. My experience spans operations, finance, human resources, and organizational leadership, giving me the opportunity to work closely with business owners and understand both the opportunities and challenges that come with building a successful company.

Over the years, I’ve become especially drawn to businesses where success has been through great employees, strong customer relationships, specialized expertise, and a reputation that can only be earned through delivering great work. Those businesses are worth preserving.

I founded Great Lakes Legacy to acquire an exceptional Michigan business that I can personally lead for the long term. I’m not looking to build a portfolio or find a quick exit. I’m looking for the right business, the right owner, and the opportunity to continue what they started while investing in the next chapter of growth.

A THOUGHTFUL TRANSITION

Every owner’s situation is different. I’m open to working together on a transition that makes sense for the owner, the employees, the customers and the business.

Let’s start a conversation.

If you’re considering what comes next for your business, or know of an owner who may be, I’d welcome the opportunity to talk.

Every conversation is confidential and there is no expectation that it needs to lead to a transaction. Sometimes, the best place to start is to simply get to know one another.
